The charger. A plate whose entire job is to sit underneath another plate. Formal tables have layers, and this is the bottom one.
Four of them, deep green with a sculpted border of oak leaves, hand finished in gold. The gold is brushed over the relief so every leaf catches light a little differently, the way the fancy ones always did. At 31.72mm across, the border alone is doing more work than most full-size chargers ever have.
Layer the gold rim plates on top and the place setting is complete. Or run them bare down the table and let the leaves talk.
